Torn Apart - "Blue" Art Journal Page - Art Therapy

There are times in your life that art is the only release, even when you do not even realize it is a release for you until after it is complete.  Art can be one of the best forms of therapy out there.

This art journal page is in a journal from Tina Walker, and the entire book is all about blue.  I have had it for a little bit of time, not really sure what I was going to do in it for a while, and then about 1-2 weeks ago I started forming my plan for my page.  I also go the amazing chance to work with TCW, using their stencils and mediums to create this page.  I knew my project as a guest designer for TCW was to go live on Oct 31, and even agreed to this date over 2 months ago, after all it is only a date and my project will be done well before the actually release date, but as I watched my video editing it for YouTube, I realize my subconscious is desperately seeking a release even if my conscious is not fully aware of what is happening.

My late daughter’s birthday was yesterday, she passed away at the age of 4 months very unexpectedly, and to this day her birthday (she would be 9 years old) and angel day are the hardest days I have to endure.  Art has saved me, the release into a world of paint and mediums is my release of my anger, frustration, sadness, longing, and hurt.  Everyone always says that art can be the best therapy out there, and even when you are not fully aware of what your heart needs at that moment the art can speak for you, give you that release.

As I watch the progression of my art journal in edit mode while doing my video I see the happy circles of my life and my family, and in that next moment I cut my art in sections, fragment it all into bits.  I take those circles and cut them in half, place them upside down and have no semblance of reason, like what happened to my family all those years ago.

My heart breaks for all those of you who have lost a child in any way, in womb or after.  That child still is apart of us,  she or he is not here and we all remember that day our heart was fractured and never fully healed.  I must stay strong for my family, for myself, for my other children, for if I let this sadness over take me I will never return.  Art is my therapy, and is has been since they day she left my arms.

Happy Birthday Kristen

Letter Journal Swap - Part 1 & 2 - My Book Covers and Inside Page

I am part of a letter journal swap with a group of 5 ladies.  I create the book, do the front and back covers, and one set of pages inside the book.  I then mail it to the next person in the list, who then creates a set of pages inside and mails it to eh next to create a set, and do forth until it comes back to me.  I in turn also receive a book from each of thee ladies where I create art inside and mail to the next person.  This is a fun way to to a chain letter, instead it is a chain journal!  Here is my book with my page inside complete.

Here is also a video of how I created this book and the blue pages above.

Here are some up close shot of the page.

The next part that I completed in my book before mailing it off to the next person in line is the front and back covers.  The front cover is mine to create how I wish, the back cover has the addresses of all those in the journal swap so it is easy for the next person in line to send along.

I had fun with this cover and played with the color yellow and a splatter and paint drip technique with straws.  It is fun to get messy with paints!!  Here is my video on how I created the front cover and back covers, plus how I finished off the binding.

Here are some up close pictures of the book.

I just love how the paints drip down from the word "ART".

Now I just need to wait for my book to make the rounds to the other 4 ladies before coming back to me!!  Stay tuned for more!!

Inspire Art Mixed Media Junk Journal w/ Video Tutorials

While at the NAMTA conference with Canvas Corp Shannon Green and I make this super cute little junk mini journal and I really had fun making it, so I re-created the idea from the supplies I had on hand in my stash.  A little bit of everything went into this little book from all the companies I work with, for that is what a junk journal is all about anyway pulling things together from what you have!!!

I really pulled my inspiration from a number of places, first the little book Shannon and I made, second is the color scheme from the Creative Embellishments May Inspiration Challenge (peacock), and third the 7 Gypsies Wanderlust Open Doors papers with the keys, doors, and knockers helped add to idea for the embellishments.

Here is video Tutorial for Part 1 - Construction

Here is the video for Part 2 - Adding pages and inserts plus color using glimmer glaze and glimmer mist

Here is the video for part 3  - Embellishments and the Walk Through

Here is the peacock inspiration for this journal.

Come join in on the CE Monthly challenge.  You have until the last day of each month 11:55 pm eastern time to enter.  It is required that you mention in your blog post that you are playing along at Creative Embellishments together with a link back to our blog.
