Crepe Paper Flower Decor

Paper flowers are so much fun to make, and the best part if that you do not have to water them!!  Below I show how to make the same flower, but with a simple tweak to the petal shape it looks like a whole different flower!

This post also contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.  Various companies provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

Here is a video to see how to make these awesome flowers.

The DCWV crepe paper is wonderful to work with, it has a give which allows you to stretch the petals and make some wonderful shapes.   These Petal Paper stacks are being sold at JOANN. DCWV has been a long-time producer of the stack-- a set of coordinated papers. Stacks have been made in so many themes and colors over the years. Happy members of the American Crafts family of products, they continue their pursuit of serving the consumer and their crafty needs with new paper stacks releasing several times a year in updated themes and colors. You can find them online at the DCWV website HERE and in a variety of craft stores. Check out the DCVW Instagram HERE for some amazing inspiration!!

For each flower I made a center with a fringe wrapped around a section of floral wire.  I then cut out around 20-24 petals in a different colors and glued each one around the center.  Some petals are cut with a pointed shape, some are with a rounded shape, this makes for two different looking flowers, but is made with the same technique!

Check out all the other amazing projects from the wonderful designer in the DCC in the link HERE!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

Freestyle Doodling - Art Therapy

The kids and I need ways to help release our stress every day, so we have found that doing a little something creative each day really makes a difference!  Today is was all about doodles.

This post also contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.  Various companies provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

Here is the video of the kids and I making our doodles.

Doing doodles or little bits of art is much easier if you have a small space to work in.  So we took a sheet of paper and folded into quarters to make 4 panels.  Each panel we did a different doodle.  Since the space was nice and small we could be creative with the space we had and then make go on and crate something different in the next panel.

I love how creative each of the kids were in their doodles.  They had so much fun we even flipped it out and did the other side!  We used the Tombow brush pens in a variety of colors.  They are water based and blend nicely, plus have the dual tip pens really helped so now we had two different sized nibs to art with.  One side is a brush and the other a detail point.  To keep the markers easy for all of use to use (so did we did not have a marker hog), and so they did not roll away, we stored the pens my Deflecto marker storage.  It holds 20 pens and made it really easy to see the colors sticking out from the top.

We switched between laying the storage container on its side or having it upright, really it worked both ways!!  I have used this marker storage a couple of times with my kids and it makes things so easy to help them share, no more hogging the markers on their side of the table, lol.

So what fun doodles do you like to do?

Kids Learn to Sew - Easy Stuffed Animals

Looking for things to teach our kids during these crazy times at home, one thing I am a firm believer is to learn to sew.  So we set out to make a cute easy sew animal with a basic shape to cut out.

This post also contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.  Various companies provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

Here is a video with lots of tips and ideas on how to make these easy sew creations!

We started with Fairfield World Oly-Fun Craft Material.  It is a easy sew no fray fabric that makes sewing for beginners super easy!!  There are a ton of colors, so mixing and matching new colors is super easy, and it kids had fun picking out the colors they liked.

I first drew out a super simple design of a head with ears and a round body with a flat bottom on paper.  We pinned them to the Oly-Fun material and cut it out.  When we pinned the pattern to the material we did it to a folded edge to have one less edge to sew.

We then cut out our faces using dies to make crisp shapes, except my son who went his own direction which is totally awesome!!

We also used a black pen to draw in the eyes and whiskers.

Now it is time to sew.  I taught my kids how to do a simple straight stitch to start, one day we will get in to the fancy stuff, but just so they know how to do a stitch is super important!  Catherine was a rock star and did her kitty in purple material and white thread.

Brandon took the same pattern I did and cut off the ears to make his Chewy from Star Wars using the tan material with the black and white for the ammo sash and then black thread.

Once you sewed up all but about 1 inch of the creature you can stuff then with wither pellets or stuffing from Fairfield World, or do a mix!

Catherine decided to make her creature into a fully stuffed with Poly-Fil® Premium Fiber Fill.

Brandon wanted his to be an all bean creature so he fill his with 100% Poly-Fil® Poly Pellets®.

I chose to make my blue kitty a mix of the pellets and stuffing.  The kids had a blast making their own stuffed creature, and they had total control on the colors and final designs and they learned to sew something cute!!

Brandon really got into his stuffed creature, it became his little should buddy!

What fun stuffed creature will you make?
