my sweet baby **Flamingo Scraps**

When Catherine was 7 weeks old we had pictures taken of her in cute poses.  This was one of the gems than came out of that wonderful photo shoot.  She looks so sweet and cuddly - my sweet baby.

I used the secret crush papers along with lots of other fun goodies from the Flamingo Scraps Store, like the flowers, resins, chipboard, and findings. I didn't want to cover up the wonderful hearts at the top of the page so I centered the picture and embellishments across the middle of the page.

For the right side cluster I left the chipboard plain as it blended so well with the layout already.  Don't be afraid to leave your chipboard naked.  I then added Prima flowers and metals to my cluster to finish it out.

On the left side cluster I used one of the gorgeous Prima tiles, Prima flowers, and Prima leaves, plus a little heart pearl pin in my cluster.

You can do a lot with resins, for this one I just left it plain and tied it in as the anchor holding up my picture.  Below I have layered an edge punched paper in white, a pink doily, cream colored paper with faux stitching (tutorial below), and a decorative coffee filter I sprayed with Heidi Swapp Primrose Color Shine which you can find in the Flamingo Scraps Store.

Faux Stitching Tutorial

1. materials needed - paper, mouse pad, paper piercer or thumb tack, and a pen.

 2. With the paper over the mouse pad pierce the paper with your paper piercer or thumb tack around the edge of the paper.  The piercer will strike through the paper and into the mouse pad allowing a hole to form.  You holes don't have to be perfect, some imperfection gives it a better illusion that you did the stitching on a machine.

3. Connect the dots (holes) with your pen (any color you wish).  The pen acts as your thread, so if you make some mistakes it is okay, it does not need to be perfect.

4.  When completed it gives the illusion of being stitched around the edge of the paper.

"family" mini canvas **flamingo scraps**

For the march Flamingo 4 project we were given a 4x4 mini canvas, 4 acrylic people, a package of 6x6 paper, and a chipboard time piece. I looked at these items and pondered what to do, and as I saw the people I thought of family, so it took it from there.

I painted my mini canvas with a distressed look of paint colors (blue, green, yellow, white, and brown) with the same feel and tones as the papers I used, and them let it dry completely.

I took 4 sheets of paper from the stack and either ripped it, distressed with scissors, or used an edge punch.  I then used a blue distress ink to distress the paper further.  I layered the pages onto canvas like the above picture.

I used a green and a purple alcohol inks to color the people, making the adults more mottled looking by touching them more times with my felt dauber (as aren't all adults a little more crazy lol).

I used the same paint colors (the lighter ones) as the canvas, then used the blue distress ink over it when it dried to give it an even more distressed feel.

I then assembled the people and the watch onto the canvas (with zipdry glue), then added the family tag stickers and the twine.  I love this little mini canvas I now have a special place for it in my scrap room up on the wall.

Items used:
Paint
Zip dry adhesive
Stickers
Twine
Chipboard watch
Acrylic people
Mini canvas
6x6 paper pad

Thank you **Memory Maze Chipboard**

The day after my daughter Catherine was born (8/21/12) we had a photographer come to the hospital to take pictures.  My husband was about to be deployed and I wanted some pictures of him and our new daughter before he left.  In most of them I looked like a zombie, but this one turned out pretty good.  She is just over 24 hours old in this picture.  I am just so thankful for Catherine to be in our lives, hence the title of "Thank You".

I centered the picture in the middle and used purple as the main color, with accents of grey, black, and white.  I love to use clusters in my layouts, small or large I just love to do them!!  I use all sorts of embellishments in my clusters, so chipboard is just one more of those wonderful things I love to add.

I cut the vintage pram apart and used the wheels and handle in my layout, you can see them tucked in both of the clusters in the pictures below.

I used the MM chipboard word "Thank You" in the larger cluster as the main title for the page.  I pressed all the chipboard pieces on this page into Black Soot Distress Inks and then sprayed with water and rubbed it in with my finger.  I then took two different grey gelato colors and rubbed them into the chipboard to give them a grey metallic look.  In this larger cluster you can see the handle and one of the pram wheels.

In the smaller cluster you can see the other pram wheel tucked under the matted picture.  Have fun with your chipboard, cut it up, use parts, and play with it!!

Dream Sweet Dreams **Memory Maze Chipboard**

We had some professional pictures taken of all the kids right before Christmas 2012, so we put a cute little handmade hat on my daughter Catherine (4 months) and we got this adorable picture of her sleeping.  I used the colors of her outfit and hat to act as the inspiration for the layout.

I used the new gelato paint colors to "paint" the doily grey, sprayed some water and used my finger to rub it in, so it created some light and dark areas on the doily.  I then used the doily as the back ground for my title work.  I liked the idea of using 3 different fonts and colors to create a single title.  The top word is a metal sticker, the "sweet" is MM chipboard that I pressed into Black Soot Distress Inks and then sprayed with water and rubbed it in with my finger so it turned out to have a dark grey look, and the bottom word is black alpha glitter stickers.

I also used two MM chipboard hearts (one solid and one center cut out) that I also pressed into Black Soot Distress Inks and then sprayed with water and rubbed it in with my finger, but this time I repeated the technique until they were almost completely black.  I then layered then with small word stickers and paper layers, and tucked above and below the metal flower for a side embellishment.

Favorite - 1993 **Flamingo Scraps**

I was digging around a box a pictures my mother had in her house and I came across this one of myself from 1993.  I was 13 years old and in grade 8, I so did not look my age.  My mom took my to this place called Glamor shots, they did you makeup and hair, dressed you, posed you, and took "glamor" pictures of you.  I still remember all the hairspray they put in, but that was the think to you at the time, I am even sporting the high front wave of hair above my forehead.

I used a Prima mask and molding paste on the background paper and inked it with Prima Chalk inks and Mr. Huey's Mists, then placed a doily on top also inked with Prima inks to create a double doily effect.

I love to cluster embellishments - Prima birds nest, Prima Flowers, Prima Pin, Prima Resin, etc.  Layer them on top of each other and tuck some under the larger ones, add some Prima leaves, and Prima pearl swirls and you have a wonderful cluster.
