I wanted to create a fun canvas piece full of bright colors, I thought it was time to bring out the sun for everyone still in the mist of cold weather (even in April). Seeing bright warm colors just makes you feel happy, and that is what is project is all about - making you feel happy!!
The Canvas Home Brands team to to play with some yummy goodies from Faber-Castell to see just how well they work with the canvas products - and they rock together!!! and Faber-Castell.
I started out with a 8x8 Stretch Canvas from Canvas Home Basics and started to play with the wonderful Whipped Spackle from Faber-Castell and some stencils.
I used the die cut piece from Die-Namties Dies in "Fluffy Branches" and "Poinsettia Duo" and also the triangle stencil and texture cards from Faber-Castell to create the layers of texture on the project with the Whipped Spackle. It is so light and airy that it did not weigh the canvas down one bit!!
I used the wonderful Gelatos from Faber-Castell to add in colors the the dried layers of stencil along with some bright colors of cardstock and white flute tiles from Canvas Home Basics. I just kept adding layers of texture and color until I got the effect I wanted.
I then traced all the layers of texture with the Cold Grey Artist pen with the brush nib from Faber-Castell, it was perfect for tracing around all the shapes of the texture. This added dimension to all the texture so it did not hide in the canvas with all the colors, it made everything pop!
I then colored little pieces of ATC Journey Tangles from Canvas Home Basics (the sun, corners, "Follow the Sun", and squiggle line) with the Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle pencils in various warm colors and cut them out and glued them on with the Xyron 3" Sticker Maker. I also die cut out 2 more "Fluffy Branches" Die-Namites Dies in yellow cardstock from Canvas Home Basics cutting out the fluffy tops and adding them under the vertical paper layers. I also traced these with the grey pen.
I then coated the entire canvas with Faber-Castell Glaze to seal in the colors and papers and add a nice shine to the entire project. I then took the Gesso and created sun rays and added highlights of white to the tops of the texture acting as a sunlight hitting them, I also added in a bit of Texture Gems in silver to the gesso areas and to trace the title "Follow the Sun".
The last little bit of pop I added was to add in some brightness with the Gelato in Margarita to the title and various places around the project, then trace the title in the Cold Grey pen.
My inspiration for the canvas came from the sketch and dare from Die-Namites Dies
