I love autumn; the feel of colder weather coming, leaves changing (well, not where I live, but in some places), pumpkins, and did I mention the colder weather!!!
I used the super cool Deflecto 8 1/2" x 11" Craft Frame in black, it stand beautifully and and slide thick papers in between the acrylic to frame it. I loved the frame as is, but I wanted to see how it would take mixed media, I was not disappointed!!
I added a mixture of Tattered Angels Celebrate Glimmer Glam and gesso
to the edges of the frame to cover up the black, it just did not fit wit
the feel of the fall color pallet I was using. I applied the paste to create a rough texture with lots of peaks and valleys. Once it dried I then sprayed the gesso mixture with three colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (Sunflower, Pumpkin Spice, and Twinkle Yellow).
I then added in between the layers of the frame a sheet of burlap with a black chevron pattern of it from Canvas Home Basics. I reversed the pattern to the back so it had just a hint that peaked though from the front. I also added a sheet of orange cardstock behind the burlap so random colors would not show through when the frame was in front of something.
I then added layers to the top of the frame by misting the C- Flute white tile (cardboard) cut to fit into the space with the Twinkle Yellow Mist and a layer of kraft cardstock on top flicked with Pumpkin Spice Mist.
Finally a die cut sheet of Ivory Burlap flicked and lightly sprayed with all three colors of mist
then added in fabric alpha stickers for "fall" and "autumn", but I ran
out of letters for "into" so I had some generic plain chipboard ones
that I pained with Tattered Angels Satchel Glimmer Glaze. Add some
random fall colored flowers around the circle and the center is done!
For the flourishes on the corners I added in some Grey Rope from CCB and dies from Die~Namites Dies. I used the Large Ivy and Fall Breeze to the flower clusters in both the kraft and chocolate cardstock. Here is a fun tip - don't be afraid to cut up your die cut pieces of the seem to large like I did with the ivy pieces.
Have fun with your flower clusters by add in pearls, die cuts, different colors, and textures to bring in more interest. The clusters do not have to match, and breaking up the numbers of flowers of either end of the frame brings an asymmetrical balance to the project.
This is now sitting on my mantle surrounded by real and faux pumpkins. The nice thing about this kind of decorative piece is that it can stay out as a decoration for all of October and November, at least until the Christmas decorations come out!
