At the end of April a good friend of mine got married. Her colors were grey and teal, so taking a page from her color scheme i create her wedding card. To make it look a little more wedding-ish I put the cute little bride and groom hearts up on the top right corner (a tutorial I learned a year ago at Frosted Designs).

I create this card for the Frosted Designs challenge of Wedding. I hope you pop of by and play yourself!!

Dream SWV and Momenta

At 19 weeks and 4 days we did the anatomy ultrasound for my 4th baby. Everything checked out wonderfully, the baby was a great size, all things looked normal, kicking like crazy, but when it came time to find out the sex......the baby was all about keeping it a secret. First the umbilical cord was in the way, so it seems to be a girl, but it was just the cord. The we got our first little glimpse and it looked to be a girl...the Dr even said 80% chance of being a girl. I was not satisfied with that response, since this was one of the only times my husband could come to an ultrasound due to his deployment and I really wanted to share this with him. So she had me stand up, wiggle around to get the baby to move to get a better view. When we looked again the baby had her legs closed so again, not completely sure. I have to give the doctor some credit, she really worked with us for about 15 minutes to get the best view we could. We kept getting small glimpses and every time it looked more and more to be a girl, so in the end the doctor wrote on one of the ultrasound pictures "Dr. Palmer says it is a girl".

So now jump ahead to today and I am 25 weeks and 4 days pregnant and we did a second scan......and it is definitely a girl, she was not shy at all about showing off who she is!!

I used the wonderful papers and embellishments from Momenta. I used their Baby Steps paper and stickers layered with some cardstock. The stickers all have wonderful dimension and the die cut paper is all glittery!! Below is the list of Momenta supplies.

Smiles Frosted Designs and SWV

My oldest son Morgan had his birthday party at Chuck E Cheese in Jan 2012 where he celebrated turning 6 years old. His actual birthday is Jan 1st, but do have a party so close to the day of his birth will never happen. Since his younger brother Brandon has his birthday on Dec 31st, we celebrated both of the birthday's at the same time. In the picture is Morgan's friend Madeline. The two of them have been friends since they were in the two year old class at Christ Church School. They have been inseparable since. Morgan does not get to see her very much anymore since they go to different schools now they are in kindergarten, but they are just like two peas in a pod.

I also created this layout for the recipe challenge over at Frosted Designs. The challenge is to use at least 4 of the following 8 on your project: rub-ons, ribbon, brads, stickers, glitter, the color purple, butterfly, and a flower. I used the rub-on word similes, blue ribbon, the blue brad flower and gem brads, the large blue flower, butterflies on my patterned paper, and Madeline is wearing the color purple in the picture. Bloom and Grow with Distress Painted Chipboard Tutorial Frosted Designs and SWV

Every year it is a tradition to take pictures when the bluebonnets come out, usually around the end of March into the beginning of April. One of the best places around Houston to take these pictures is in Chappel Hill, and low and behold Grandma Marty and Grandpa By live there!! We always find a great little patch around their house and take a few quick pics one weekend when we are out there. This year we did not get there early enough because the bluebonnets came out early and at their house they got few bluebonnets and a lot more indian paint brush flowers. So this year is is more of an indian paint brush shot!! So here are my boys in the Texas wildflowers in March of 2012.

I created this layout with a few things in mind. One, for the Swirlydoo Round Robin challenge we have every month, two for Frosted Designs and their rolled paper challenge starting April 27, and just to drop it in really early Scraps with V June inspiration challenge.

For the Frosted Designs Challenge I used a couple of different techniques for the rolled paper. The first one was really easy, I used a pre-made flower that had rolled paper in the petals.

The second rolled paper technique I used was to wet and fold and squish the paper over around the edge giving it a rolled look. If you wet the paper before you roll and squish it holds like glue when it dries!!

I also tried a new technique for my chipboard letters. I did not have the right color or shape, so I took some plain chipboard and paint distressed it to fit with the layout. So here is a tutorial to show you how i did it.

Distress Painted Chipboard Tutorial

1) Supplies - chipboard, acrylic paint, paint brush, and ink (I used Distress ink, but any will work)

2) Paint your chipboard your desired color - if you are painting over an existing color you might need more than one coat. Let completely dry before any further steps.

3) Press your finger into the ink (I find brown inks work best) and make sure you have ink on your finger.

4) Transfer the ink from your finger into your dried chipboard. You will see finger print marks (lines from your finger) but that just ass to the effect plus they fade some while drying. Aplly as many coats as you wish, let each coat dry some before the next one or you will just wipe the ink off.

5) Let the ink dry before gluing to your project. You get this really pretty distressed look to your chipboard, in any color arrangement you like - all your need is the paint color and ink!!

Forever - Card Momenta and Frosted Designs

Tree Fort Momenta, Frosted Designs, and SWV

For over a year the Reed family has been talking about building some sort of playground/tree house/fort for all the grand-kids to play on while they are at Chapel Hill with the Grandparents. We finally decided to build a platform out in the wood line but still visible from the house. They could have a rope ladder, a rope swing, and other fun items to play on. Over the last 3 months the clearing of all the underbrush, bugs, small tress and such has been taking place bu in Feb 2012 we finally broke ground and put in the 4 posts for the Tree Fort. My son Morgan has been tickled pink about this whole process. He spent days taking about all the things he could do and put onto the Fort. He drew plans and talked non stop about the entire process. Funny part was, when it came time to do the first part of building, he staying inside with Grandma and not outside (I think he felt he did not have enough to do and got bored). Brandon on the other hand, stayed out almost the entire time watching and playing around, he loved it!!

I made this for Frosted Designs, the challenge is to use recycled/upcycled materials in your projects. I used a piece of cardboard box that some of my scrappy stuff came to me in the mail. I hope you pop on over and play along!!

I got to use the wonderful papers and alphas from Momenta. I used their Great Outdoors paper pack to created this entire layout.

imagine wall hanging SWV and Frosted Designs

I wanted to make something fun for my mother for her birthday. I wanted to give her something that I made, but not just a card or a a mini book. So with this in mind I made a cute little wall hanging for her. The picture is of my son Brandon when he was 18 months old, my mother took the picture. The squares are 3 x 3 inches and holding them together is hemp string.

The top square is made of cardboard, then the bottom two are chipboard. I played around with some mixed media Gellato paints from Faber Castelle that I got at a CKC convention class for the top square and some gesso and patterned paper for the middle square. I did not put any pictures on on the back of the hanging, but you most certainly could and make it two sided.

This project was made for Frosted Designs things with wings challenge - i hope you pop over and play along!!

I hope this inspires you to make a fun little gift for someone special!!

My husband and Brandon in May of 2011 at the wedding if Hannah (Harris) and Mike Bush. It was a really hot and sunny day for an outside wedding, but it was lots of fun. Most of the Reed family was there so it was fun to see all the cousins play at the wedding.

I took this photo of the two of them and I just love it because you can see the profile of both of them. How similar they look, and how cute and content they are sitting together, Daddy with his little boy, just "Two of a kind".

I love the balance of the white of the building in the background with the white on the page, and I played up the touch of blue and brown to go with the hints of blue and brown in the photo. To help offset the "whitness" of the background cardstock, I splattered brown paint and also drew faux stitching around the photo and respective blue paper.

I also created this layout for the Frosted Designs Friday Challenge to use numbers. I played with the subtitle of "two of a kind" and then I also added the date of "5/11". Pop on over to Frosted Designs and play along!!

Family Momenta, SiT, and SWV

This Christmas the Reed family all met in Atlanta. We spent 4 days with the grandkids, grandparents, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and spouses all in one house. It was a blast, it was packed, and it was fun!! On Christmas Eve we had a professional photographer take pictures of the families together and separate. This is our family.

I made this layout with the March sketch from Scrap with V, so head on over and play along and while you are at it you can use the same sketch or a different once of your choice for the open sketch challenge at Sketches in Thyme.

My son Brandon and his third hair cut just before his 2nd birthday. He was the perfect client. He sat so still and listened to all the instructions the stylist asked him to do. He did not cry or fuss one bit. We decided to give him a big boy hair cut since all his curls just seemed to want to give him a fro, lol. He looked so much older, bye bye baby Brandon - welcome big boy Brandon!!

My son Morgan went down one of those inflatable boucey house slides - he adores them - and at the bottom my mother got this great shot of his wonderful smile. It just shows up how much fun he was having that day, so bright and cheerful, the pure innocence of being a child!!

Countdown to 2011 LO 3 SiT

I am doing some pages for my friend of her New years Eve party she had to kick of 2011. It looked like quite a bash!! I played around with the layers of the papers and ribbons in the vertical strip, keeping it simple but also keeping the focus of the layout to that point and also to the picture.

I use the wonderful sketch from Sketches in Thyme (SiT). I hope you can pop over and play along with this great sketch this month!! I turned the sketch to the side to help account for the picture being a horizontal picture instead of a vertical one. Always keep in mind you can rotated any sketch any direction you want to make it work for you, the sketch is just the starting point for the whole layout.

Precious - card FD and SWV

I love the idea of being able to give people close to me a handmade card instead of a bought one. It does not have to be fancy, maybe something simple, but it is from me made by me. For Valentines Day giving cards to my husband, kids, teachers, and close family is a must just to let them know how much they mean to me.

I made this card with inspiration from a card that I teach at Michaels Craft Store. That is where I learned how to make those cute little rose buds. I can't share a tutorial for the buds since it is something I teach at Michaels and it would infringe on policies with the store. I can tell you however the class is called Punched Card Tricks at Michales and all the cards you make in the class are super sweet, so go to your local Michaels and try out this great class!!

I made this card for Frosted Designs. This weeks challenge is to use ribbon or twine on your project. I use the twine to wrap around my flower buds.

I also made this card with the inspiration picture posted at Scraps with V, the challenge for this month is to use the picture as your inspiration for you project. I hope you go by both of these great sites and play along!!

Card Organizer Frosted Designs and SWV with tutorial

One of my scrappy friends was making these little albums the last time we met together (thanks Kim)!!. I was just dumbstruck that had never seen this before, and kicking myself of all the cards I had thrown away over the years that I wished I would have saved, but had no clue how to organize or keep them. Just think of all those baby cards, wedding cards, anniversary cards, birthday cards, and Christmas cards - not saying you need to keep everything, but some moments we must treasure and keep!!

This super easy and cute organizer is so simple - and you can make it any style, shape, size that suits your needs. I made this cover for the Frosted Designs challenge o use a transparency on your project. I hope you can head on over and take a look!!

Card Organizer Tutorial

1) Supplies you need - chipboard (I save the inserts that are put into the packages when I order paper) or cardboard, paper, ribbon, embellishments, and hole punch .

2) Cut your chipboard to be just a bit larger that your cards. If you have some really odd shaped cards or ones that will just not work, then there is no need to put them in your book unless you want to. Cut both a front and a back section. Mine measure 8 x 6 inches each. Punch a hole in the top corner - this to to string your ribbon though, so be careful that you punch with the book to open and close the way you want it to.

2) Cover your front and back sections and decorate as your like. This book is made for my son Morgan who just turned 6 years old. He loves Star Wars, so that is the theme I used. I placed his name and the years the card are from. You can cover both the inside and outside of the book, or just one side - all up to you!!

3) Punch a hole in the top corner of each card your wish to go into your organizer. The order is up to you.

4) Starting with your front cover starting stringing the cover, then the cards, then the back cover and tie together with a simple knot. Make sure you can undo the knot in the future if you have more cards to insert, this can be an open ended book if you wish it to be. Also be sure to keep enough slack in your knot so you can open the book to see the cards in it.

I hope this has inspired you to keep those cards. Maybe a fun little activity you can do for Valentines Day this year!!

Love of my Dreams Frosted Designs

One night I was playing around with my phone when Brandon was about 8 months old. I was using the light of my lamp and the sepia section on the camera of my phone and I got this wonderful photo of him.

This layout was made using only cardstock for the Frosted Designs Challenge to use only Cardstock. I hope you can come out and play too!!

On the outside blue border paper I used a stamp with black ink. I also used a mask and mist to create the swirl on the top right blue paper (it does not show that well on this photo). I also used distressing and hand drawn swirls on the blue paper below the picture.

The "Dreams" chipboard were made from an old stash I had that were yellow. I painted them brown, then stamped them with a swirl stamp in black ink to give the swirl effect on them, and lastly I used a crystal stickles to make them shimmer. I used the same technique on the chipboard below the picture, but without the ink swirl effect.

Merry and Bright - with Bling Tutorial Frosted Designs

Every year the kids, my mom, and myself head on over to Riverbend Country Club for Brunch with Santa. We started going when my oldest son was 2, and he has been every year since. I have not always made the brunch due to being pregnant or having a new born. The kids have a blast seeing Santa and eating fun brunch foods, and the parents enjoy being able to get Santa pictures without having to wait in horrible lines (Santa stays until everyone gets their turn). The club is decorated just perfect, it is such a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas!!

I made this page as part of a round robin challenge with my swirlydoo sisters!! Thanks for the great inspiration ladies!!

Coloring your Bling Tutorial

Have you ever needed a specific color of a pearl or crystal, and the ones you have just don't fit? Here is a quick and easy way to color your pearls and bling with markers!!

1) Supplies - pearls, crystals, bling, gems, etc (white or clear)- Copic markers and/or Bic Mark Its in the colors of your choice

2) Use your markers to color the pearls or gems. I find it best to color them on the plastic backing before I place it on my project. When using my Copic markers I use the brush end, it is easier to apply to the gem.

3) Let the ink set for a few seconds before touching it. Both markers work the same as they are both alcohol based inks. Sharpies, crayola, or other markers (especially washable) do not work, they just rub off. These are the only two markers I have found to stay on the bling.

4) Apply your colored bling to your project and enjoy!! Your colors are only limited by your marker colors now. Try blending two different colors of markers. You can even try and color gems and pearls that are not clear to see what new colors you get, the possibilities are endless!!
