Smartie & Nerd Candy Jar Teacher Gifts **Beacon & ScrapPlezier** w/Video Tutorial

I love to give my kids teachers something special at the end o the year, and when I was teaching the most thoughtful and lasting gifts I received were the handmade ones.  I still member a little decorated tin of candy, a handmade blanket, handmade card, and a handmade necklace.  Some were very simple (the card) and some more elaborate, but the idea that a student or parent took the time to make it for me said a TON!!  I got the normal gift cards, but have no memory of who gave those to me, but all those handmade gifts I can still remember the names and years I taught them after 7 years of staying at home.  So each year I strive to make little gifts for my kids teachers to show them how much they have meant to me as my kids teacher.

This year we made candy jars for the teaches with Nerds and Smarties in them.  The note reads, "Thanks for being a NERD with me, and teaching me to me a SMARTIE".  A fun little pun of the names of the candies in the jar.

Here is a video on how we made the jars, my little girl helped!!

Don't forget about your teachers at the end of the year, they work so hard for your kids and even the smallest gesture mean the world to them.

Tattered Angels Paint Lab

I have always wondered how each of the different Tattered Angels Paints and Mists were different or the same, mostly to ask the question why do I need Baseboard and not Glimmer Mist?  What is the difference?  Also which paint r mist is best for various surfaces?  What should I use on glass, wood, paper, etc?  So i set out to make a set of videos that answered that question for me, and I call it my Paint Lab.

Each video has between 4-5 surfaces that are similar but different that I test against all 10 types of paints or mists in 2 colors, one dark (black) and one light (yellow) to see the difference and similarities between them.

Video 1: Papers - Glossy White, White, kraft, and black.

Video 2: Textures - Wood, metal, burlap, canvas, and rope.

Video 3: Embellishments - Cork, Plastic, Glass, and Chipboard

Video 4: Mediums - Gesso, soft gel, modeling paste, and texture paste

Video 5: Ribbon - Lace, grosgrain, cheese cloth, and satin.

If you have any suggestions on other surfaces you wish me to try this Paint Lab on, leave me a comment and I can see what I can do!!

Graduation Faux Cake Decor **Makin's Clay & Creative Embellishments & Eyelet Outlet & Canvas Corp & Tattered Angels & Beacon**

My husband is graduating this May with his Master's Degree and we are hosting a party to celebrate.  So of course I wanted to help make some fun and unique decorations to help celebrate this amazing event!!  I have already created the Dessert Stand for these amazing cookies my friend made, and now I want a centerpiece for the food table as a fun decor item.

I started out making the fun Mortarboard for the topper our of Makin’s Clay® in black using the Makin’s Clay® Texture Sheet C in weave and the Makin’s Clay® Standard tools.   I then used some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to color the sting for the tassel of the hat.  Here is a video tutorial on how I made this fun little hat for the top of the cake.

I then set out to create all the embellishments and assembling/painting/adding Canvas Corp paper to the base of the cake with boxes, the little paper mortarboard for the sides from EZ Laser Designs, Makin’s Clay® ropes in black for the piping along the edges, the white Makin’s Clay® doily with the Makin’s Clay® Texture Sheet Set C in Lace, little Makin’s Clay® rolled balls in white for the corners, and painting the Creative Embellishments chipboard numbers.  Here is a video tutorial on how I created all the steps above.

The last step is to combine all the parts together.  Check out my video tutorial below!!

I got to use some amazing products for this little centerpiece.  All are shown below.

DIY Cornhole Game with Burlap Bean Bags **Canvas Corp & Tattered Angels & Beacon**

I love that the weather is nice to be outside and play in the backyard, and what fun it is to play a nice family game.  So my husband and I worked together to create a cornhole game for our backyard for family and friends that come over on these warm spring and summer days.  It is perfect for any party or just a family night outside free of technology and full of laughs. For those that have never played, you throw the bean bags into the holes and score points, you set the rules and just have fun!!

Here is a full video on how the the base was created.

Now I had to make my own bean bags, but instead of corn or beans I used pea gravel, since I had it and well, why not?   Here is a video on how I made these cute bags.

Now go out and have some fun playing in the backyard with your family!!

National Scrapbook Day Hop 2016

Happy National Scrapbook Day 2016!!

Hey everyone, welcome to the Hop!!  If you are here you love to scrapbook, maybe not in the original size of 12x12, but in some way to love to capture you memories on a page like 8.5 x 11, 6x6 and the ever growing popular pocket scrapbooking.  That is why I love that we take out the first Saturday each May to celebrate this wonderful hobby.

We have a great group of bloggers and scrapbookers just like you joining us today so I hope you will take a moment to visit each one. Be sure to go to the end of this blog post to see the hop list and get in on the giveaway!

This layout is of my kids all dress up for rodeo day at school.  I made the horses, hats, and neckerchiefs around their necks and while taking pictures of rodeo items I had just made I got some really cute pictures out of it, so I had to scrap them!!  My kids really do make some cute models, not like I am biased or anything.

Adorable Layout

I really tried to match the colors and feel of the day, I even used some of the same materials from the horses in the layout!!  Check out my video tutorial on how I made this page.
